Google Webmaster Tools is an unbelievably effective write for analyzing traffic aggregation for your website or journal. 1 - Go to Google Webmaster Tools. A link is provided below, in the resource section, or just do a search for Google Webmaster Tools and go to the link that comes up.


2 - Register for Google Webmaster Tools. If you already have any kind of Google account, you are already signed up. If not, it's simple to do. Simply create an account with your email address and a password. That's all there is to it.


3 - Add your Website to the tool. Once you are signed in, you will always land on your Dashboard when you go to Google Webmaster Tools. Near the middle of the page is a button that says, Add a Site. Click on the button.

4 - Enter the URL of your websites, one at a time, into the little slot that pops up. You must be the owner of a website or blog in order to use this tool. Google will ask you change your site in some way, to verify that you are the owner of the site. If you are not the owner...like us eHow writers are not owners of the site...you will not be able to complete this task. Don't worry though, this tool can still be used by anyone to report Keyword Spamming on the Web, so stay registered anyway.

5 - Visit your dashboard to view your data. Google Webmaster Tools will track many things for you. You can find out how many people are visiting your site, you can find out what keywords they are using to find your site, you can find out who is backlinking to your site and how much traffic is coming from them, check to see if anyone has hijacked you site, analyze problems get suggestions for improving your HTML code.

6 - Submit your Sitemap. This step is not necessary, but they highly recommend it. It helps Google know all the pages that are a part of your site and will keep them updated with your homepage.

7 - Use Google Webmaster Tools to report sites that have hijacked your site or are keyword spamming and stealing your traffic. Google is very concerned about these problems and wants them reported whenever you find them. See my article on reporting Keyword Spamming, for detailed instructions on how to do this.
